Craig M. Sande, MD, FACG
Dr. Sande is a Reno native and the fifth of six children raised by Naomi and John Sande. Medicine was not exactly the career path he had in mind when he left Reno to do his undergrad at Stanford University. He initially considered a career in electrical engineering, but after further exploration, he decided to follow his father’s footsteps and entered the field of medicine. He specialized in Gastroenterology because it combined the diagnostic challenges of Internal Medicine with the hand-eye coordination skills of endoscopic procedures.
Although he sees patients with all types of gastrointestinal disorders and healthy patients for colorectal cancer screening, Dr. Sande has a special clinical interest in inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease and esophageal motility disorders.
Dr. Sande is currently the President of Gastroenterology Consultants. In addition to this critical role, he serves as the Nevada Governor for the American College of Gastroenterology, Chairman of the Hometown Health Plan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Board Member of the Washoe County Medical Society and Chairman of the Washoe County Medical Society’s Physician Computer Networking Taskforce. He is a member of the following professional organizations: American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Medical Association.
When he has some free time, Dr. Sande enjoys spending it with his wife and three daughters. He enjoys an array of outdoor activities such as mountain biking, running, hiking, backpacking, hunting, telemark skiing, snowboarding and traveling. Though his initial career plan when he left for college did not quite pan out, the “ electrical engineer” in him, since the age of 15, remained to this day and is exhibited in his passion and participation in Amateur Radio.
