Dr. Hong Gao, MD, PhD
Dr. Gao began her practice in gastroenterology after completing her Gastroenterology Fellowship at Yale University. In addition to general gastrointestinal diseases, her particular areas of interest include acute and chronic liver diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, Celiac disease, management of women’s gastroenterological issues and colon cancer screening. She oversees the Hepatitis C Clinic in our Carson City office.
Dr. Gao had many years experience in academic medicine, including teaching and medical research. Her special research interest was in liver disease. She has been published in numerous medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. Her research has been presented in national and international meetings. Dr. Gao is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
Dr. Gao believes that one of the most important skills of a physician is to listen to patients. She is passionate about providing health education to her patients as well as the general public. She actively supports and participates in patient support groups, such as Hepatitis C support group and Celiac Disease support group.
In her spare time, Dr. Gao enjoys reading, exploring nature and spending time with her husband and friends.
