Biography:
Dr. Chen is a specialist in digestive disorders and liver diseases.  He is currently the only gastroenterologist in Northern Nevada with expertise in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a state-of-the-art technology that combines endoscopy with ultrasound. It allows the ultrasound examination of the lining and walls of the gastrointestinal tract and internal organs that lie next to the gastrointestinal tract.  EUS is important in cancer staging and can also be used to diagnose diseases of the pancreas, bile duct, gallbladder and other gastrointestinal disorders when other tests are inconclusive.

Dr. Chen also has expertise and interest in ERCP, a procedure that can be used to diagnose and treat patients with jaundice and gallstones in the bile duct.

Dr. Chen feels that listening and empathy are important aspects of medicine.  He enjoys helping patients with digestive disorders and liver diseases, and has a special interest in caring for patients with gastrointestinal cancers.  He is experienced in esophageal stenting, a procedure that can help patients with swallowing difficulties resulting from esophageal cancer.  He is also skilled in EUS-guided celiac axis neurolysis or nerve block, which is a relatively new technique that can help to improve pain from pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Chen enjoys spending his leisure time with his wife and family.  His hobbies include biking, skiing and art.
